On Friday at the Faculty of Law University of Belgrade, organized by Libek, Austrian Economic Center from Vienna and Students for Liberty Law Faculty, an economic conference was held within Free Market Road Show. FMRS is an annual serie of conferences that are being organized this year alone in thirty capitals of Europe. Theme of the Belgrade conference was conditions in European Union in the context of forthcoming elections for the European Parliament.
Conference was opened by Petar Čekerevac, Executive Director of Libek, specifying global significance of this event for contemporary political discussions in Europe. During expositions of acclaimed domestic and foreign experts in areas of law, economics, banking and other areas it was concluded that for the citizens of EU it is vital that after the elections no tax harmonization occurs, as it would lead to the abolishment of competition and high costs of transfering from a faulty to a better tax system, leading to a further drop in employment and standard of living. From the conference a message was sent out that the best way to stop „brain drain“ is to create a fertile and secure economic system that can provide new employment.
Miloš Nikolić, President of Libek expressed his delight for the success of the conference: ’This is the second time Libek is Belgrade host of FMRS. We find it especially important that the panelists, with their stance that governments and EU itself need to put as few restrictions on the economy as possible, have confirmed the correctness of Libek’s activities.
’At FMRS it is a tradition to elaborate contemporary topics, so by titles of the panels it is easy to conclude which problems are most pervasive in a modern society. Fostering the spirit of debate is especially important for a serious approach to these problems’, pointed out Mihailo Gajić, Program Director of Research Department at Libek and one of the moderators of the conference.
