Publication of the Book and an Agreement with the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
This week, Libek signed an agreement with the Peterson Institute for International Economics from Washington D.C. We announce with great pleasure that “The Great Rebirth: Lessons from the Victory of Capitalism over Communism” book will be published this year in Serbian language. The book explains the complex topics related to post communist reforms which were implemented during the political and economic transition in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Caucasus and Central Asia.
This publication consists of essays written by former prime ministers, ministers of finance, governors and other policy experts, such as Vaclav Klaus, Leszek Balcerowicz, Mart Laar, Ivan Mikloš, Mikheil Saakashvili, etc. The basic goal of their essays is to answer the questions about the goals of the economic reforms, the key obstacles and challenges in implementation of the reforms and things they would have done differently.
Publication of this book is very important for thorough research of economic reforms and the experience of the authors and the witnesses of the reform processes is of extraordinary relevance for the decision makers in Serbia and the Balkans region.
The editors of the Book, Anders Aaslund and Simeon Djankov speak about many very useful conclusions that they have arrived to during the preparation of the book, working on deep understanding of the reform processes. Simeon Djankov, the former Minister of Finance of Bulgaria and the Deputy Prime Minister, is also known as the author of the Doing Business Report of the World Bank, one of the most important economic indexes of today. Anders Aaslund is a Swedish economist, who has, similar to Djankov, advised many transitional governments on reforms.
Peterson Institute for International Economics is one of the most influential think tanks in the field of global economy, whose initiatives reach from the most developed countries in the world to international institutions and organizations, such as the IMF.
The book publication in Serbia will be followed with public promotion, which will be a great opportunity for the local political elite and policy experts to discuss topics of relevance to the reforms in Serbia with some of the authors of the book and to further pressurize the decision makers to complete the reforms so that Serbia has a perspective of becoming a more prosperous society.
